The north approach This road carried the "proclamation route" of the Lincoln Highway. The initial route of America's first coast-to-coast paved highway was laid out in 1913. The Lincoln Highway came from Mount Vernon over the 10th Avenue Bridge, across this bridge, into Marion and then into Cedar Rapids.
