Glasgow Bridge

The need to replace the bridge is apparent from looking, but..just how structurally sound are the piers and how well will they support the weight of the new construction?

If anybody who is part of the committee involved in replacing this bridge reads this, PLEEEEEASE!!! Whatever you do, don't just replace it with a concrete bridge. I hate concrete bridges. Make it interesting in some fashion such as a cable-stayed or suspension bridge. Aesthetics are important too!!!

Glasgow Missouri is the name of the town on the east side of the river.

Charlie, I'm not really sure but I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that is might be from the name of the town on the east end of the bridge - Glasgow, Missouri.

Where did the name come from? Is there a Scottish connection here?

This bridge will be destroyed and replaced in 2008. The superstructure will be removed and a new roadway will sit on top of the existing piers.

WOW!!! These are a couple of scarrry-looking bridges! Kinda reminds me of a picture of the old Vicksburg, Ms bridge that I saw many years ago in Trains magazine. I am actually from Chillicothe, Mo, quite a bit north of these bridges, and we do not have any bridge as scary as thes two beasts. Although, this does give me an idea for my next river scene on a model railroad. How about a highway bridge in between two monstrously long black railroad bridges! I love this website, and it is now one of my favorites. It will help with my bridge construction for my railroad. Thank you for posting these pictures. Just a quick question: does anyone know why the state of Nebraska is not included in the gallery of Missouri bridges?
