Two of Three spans left standing

The north span and the center span survived the weight of the tractor-trailer, but the last span at the bottom right, did not. Probably the only existing, and also the last picture of the bridge.

This picture was taken at sunset on a day in the spring of 1974, shortly after a tractor-trailer truck drove over the 3-span bridge from the north end. The third span collapsed into the river from the weight of the truck's load. The other two spans were demolished shortly after. A new concrete I-beam bridge was built within a year, and prompted a re-building program involving all the old Pratt through truss bridges in the northern end of Marshall County. This is the only known private picture that exists of the old bridge

Overview: Lost Pratt through truss bridge over Duck River on Verona-Caney Road in Northern Marshall County
Location: Marshall County, Tennessee
Status: Collapsed
History: Destroyed by tractor-trailer truck, that exceeded bridge's maximum weight limit.. span on south end collapsed under the weight into the river.. rest of bridge later demolished
Builder: - Youngstown Bridge Co. of Youngstown, Ohio
Design: Long Pratt Simple Truss Bridge, with wooden plank deck. Many of those planks survived the weight of the tractor-trailer truck, but the steel reinforcement in the third span of the bridge did not.
